Analog discovery 2 and Altera USB Blaster - conflict!

Piotr Rzeszut

Question

Hi,

I am recently developing system using Altera FPGA's that is featuring A/D and D/A converters. I want to use the AD2 for debugging, but as soon as I plug original Altera USB Blaster and AD2 into my PC (they are not connected using hub, I tried even plugging one device to USB3.0 and other to USB2.0 port, as well as connecting one of them to separate ports using PCI-express USB extension) both USB Blaster and AD2 stop working...

Kind regards

PR

@attila Thank you for answer.

1. Only AD2 connected:

2. With AD2 running I am connecting USB Blaster, AD2 stil working, but USB Blaster not recognised by Quartus Prime Programmer (w/o any error message - simple not listed as available programmer - drop down list empty):

3. Closing Waveforms, unplugging AD2 form PC -> USB Blaster available:

4. Plugging AD2 to PC, starting waveforms and running configuration - again USB Blaster not recognised. Also sometimes during configuration I get (when USB Blatser is plugged and in use):

Hi @Piotr Rzeszut

I'm not sure what to say...
I suspect the Altera USB Blaster is also using FTDI USB and their software is trying to connect the Digilent device. The Digilent software filters devices based on name and does not disturb other devices. Altera's software might access all FTDI USB devices, blocking them or hanging when already in use...

I can only suggest to use one of the devices from a different computer or from virtual machine.
