My project is a prototype of a tape storage controller for an old PDP-11 compatible retro computer. The controller is very well documented and I'm making its replica based on an Altera Cyclone FPGA. I've made great progress, most parts of the controller are working, I can control my tape drive from the computer, but there are still some problems with its functionality. What I want to achieve at this moment - I want to log data that's being both written to the tape and read from it so I could analyse it and compare if all data path from the computer to the tape and back works correctly. I have enough debug pins that I can monitor data flow with my Digital Discovery logic analyzer in Waveforms software.
My main question is - I have no experience in scripting Waveforms and I have no idea if the script can even do what I want. My goal is simple - there are two 9-bit data buses, both of them have data clocks. I would like to simply log both data streams (or at least one) into the separate files in a binary or hexadecimal format. I need to collect data on a clock edge and put in a file for a further analyse outside Waveforms. Is this possible? And is there any example of something similar?
