WaveForms Tracer: optocoupler measurements: CTR, parasitic ouput pole Cap ...

Rolf

Question

Hello, very great job for the WaveForms App - I'm using AD2 and being fan of it and WaveForms.

I am developing - among other things - power supplies and find the AD2 well suited for many tasks of this kind of development.
(AD2: The swiss army knife of the elctronic engineer below 100MSa/s / 30MHz ! )

Is it possible to add an optcoupler to the new instrument tracer?

Especially interresting would be the following curves:

- CTR: current transfer ratio

- ouput pole capacitance of the optocoupler's transistor: (parasitic capacitance of the output transistor between it's collector and emitter,
which is normally not mentioned in the datasheets, but limits strongly the performance of the feedback loop
  and should be measured therefore).

This could be done with a pullup resistor on the output collector to V+ and  sweeping frequency with the  AWG.on the input diode.
A Bodeplot could show the corner frequency of the given pullup Resistor with the inherent parasitic cap.
With the given value of the pullup Resistor on the output, it will be possible to calculate this parasitic capacitor !
(might be this is better done in the network or script/plot instrument but stepping V+ and/or the pullup-resistor could be interesting).
With clever arrangement of the measurement-circuit-setup most/all opto-measurements can be done with one circuit.
