CMOD S6 with Multisim

CPP_ECET

Question

I need to provide my students with instructions to program the Cmod S6 using Multisim

when I follow the process outlined at http://www.ni.com/tutorial/14871/en/

when I get to step 5.3 to export the design to the S6 no Xilinx ISE or Vivado tools appear in the window
i have installed ISE 12.4 but no linkage works for the process

can anybody provide an updated step by step software install process for a clean install for a student to follow?

Hello,
Have you tried adding the ISE installation directory manually using the Browse function? In my case, selecting the ISE installation folder fixed the issue, as seen in the following screenshots.
Also, for a more recent tutorial you can check https://reference.digilentinc.com/learn/programmable-logic/tutorials/program_fpgas_through_multisim/start which provides a more detailed example.

Nita Eduard,

Thanks for that information, after a couple new Xilinx compilation tool downloads I was able to finally get the "tool" installed and selected as you suggested however my Cmod A6 is not recognized even after refreshing. I found a KB paper that said only up to Vivado 2014.4 can be used with Multisim 14 and CMOD A6

https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z000000kImKSAU&l=en-US

NI Circuit Design Suite 14.1 is only compatible up to LabVIEW 2015 SP1 FPGA Module Xilinx Tools Vivado 2014.4

So I downloaded a new Vivado 2014.4 but still my A6 is not recognized.

Any ideas on the best Vivado or ISE version to use, the paper referenced looked like ISE 12.4 maybe

Also the article you referenced was for the CMOD A7 which I believe is quite different than the A6 unit

Hi @CPP_ECET,

You are correct in that the Cmod S6 will not be recognized by Xilinx's Vivado software which is recommended in the Multisim guide pointed out by @Niță Eduard, Xilinx ISE will be required if you want to export a design from Multsim to the Cmod S6.

Based on the NI white paper you linked, I believe you can use Xilinx ISE 14.7 with Multisim 14.1. I do not know if there is any weird compatibility issue with using the Windows 10 version of ISE 14.7 with Multisim or if you need to use a Windows 7 machine for the last formal release of ISE 14.7 back from 2013.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
JColvin
