"Hacking" an SFP+ transceiver with Analog Discovery 2?

ChrisATX

Question

Hi all, I'm a complete newbie to integrated fiber optic communication components, and I'm interested in trying manually "operate" an SFP+ transceiver. The reason being both the distributed feedback laser and the PIN photodetector could be useful for non-telecom, scientific/spectroscopic purposes. I've added a link to the transceiver module I have available to play with. Basically, to begin I wanted to put a single-mode fiber loopback with a fiber isolator in line so I can feed the transceiver's laser light back into its own photodiode. The first hurdle I need to overcome is being able to manually control the laser side, then I am interested in using the Analog Discovery 2 to look at the center frequency and bandwidth of the laser line from the photodiode side. Advice or resources would be greatly GREATLY appreciated.

Stay well,

Chris
