X10 Probe problem with small signal

JuanCar

Question

hi @attila

I would like to ask you if this behavior is normal... AD2 with BCN adaptor, Generaltor Chanel1 100mVp and 1KHz. On the osciloscope on Chanel one with probe on (x1) the signal is perfect. With the probe on (10x) there is a 50Hz intermodulation and the signal is not too good.

Is it normal?

Regards.

Hi @JuanCar

The noise may also come from the USB cable from the computer or monitor, try to have only the AD2 connected to the laptop.

You can specify 10x attenuation under channel options or select 'Show attenuation' under Options under time.

With shorted 10x at such time base I only see +/-1xLSB from 50/60Hz
R1: when I touch the ungrounded desk lamp emit more radiation, ~2xLSB

Hi @JuanCar

When supplying from mains make sure to have earth connection.

I can obtain similar but lower amplitude when powering from mains without earth connection.
Like laptop on battery and using 5V supply without earth. Some laptop supplies may not have earth, the ones with 2 plug pins.
Without earth connection you may feel 'static electricity' while touching the computer metal part or ground.
Always make sure to have earth and/or common ground between devices/circuits.
