Cmod S6 - trying to program flash - "initilaize chain" does not work

Rom123

Question

Hello everybody,

It's the first time for me working with FPGA's so I chose a Cmod s6 board.

I did my software so far with Xilinx ISE 14.7, did the connection from the computer (Win 7, 64Bit) to the board (On-board USB port) with just a normal USB-cable and transferred the software with Digilent "Adept" directly to the FPGA. The problem is, everytime I pull out the plug from the cable, the software gets lost. So I have ot transfer this PROM-file, generated in "iMPACT", to the flash. The generation of the file also works

But the problem is: If I try to initialize the chain, it doesnt work. It says:

I already uninstalled the driver twice and reinstalled it like suggested in another Digilent Forum chat, used different USB-cables, made a couple of restarts, tried different settings in the cable setup - without success!

What is wrong? Thanks for help in advance!

@Rom123,

I expect someone from Digilent will answer shortly, but thought I might provide my own response as well.

I always programmed the flash myself.  It wasn't all that hard, and you can find all the software I used to do it within my own S6SoC project.  Basically, I'd load a special design using the traditional tools (I called this alttop.bit), and then communicate with that design over USB/UART to load a new design using my own zipload command as I called it.

Feel free to check it out if it helps, otherwise I'm sure Digilent will step in,

Dan

Hi jpeyron,

I already found that discussion and yes, I followed the steps. But even before creating a prom-file, the "initialize chain" is not successfull.

What do you exactly mean with "process"?

Thanks (also to Dan for the help)

Hi jpeyron,

it works! I found it quiet complicated to find out in which directory I had to put the files.

So I tried and tried and tried... that was the important part.

Thanks for the support and thanks for having this forum!
