I'm using Xilinx ISE suite to design, test and program the Cmod S6 board. At this point I am able to configure the Spartan6 FPGA with a bit file over the USB connection (although I have not verified functionality), but I'm having a problem programming the serial PROM. Here is the report I get from the iMPACT tool: INFO:iMPACT - Current time: 5 Jul 2018 14:00:55 // *** BATCH CMD : Program -p 1 -dataWidth 1 -spionly -e -v -loadfpga PROGRESS_START - Starting Operation. Maximum TCK operating frequency for this device chain: 25000000. Validating chain... Boundary-scan chain validated successfully. '1': IDCODE is 'ffffff' (in hex). '1': ID Check failed. INFO:iMPACT:2488 - The operation did not complete successfully. INFO:iMPACT - SPI Device not found. INFO:iMPACT:2488 - The operation did not complete successfully. INFO:iMPACT - '1': Flash was not programmed successfully. PROGRESS_END - End Operation. Elapsed time = 4 sec. It seems to fail the ID Check, whatever that is. When I selected the PROM device, I chose S25FL128S from the available list. I think that is the correct one. Also, if I try to erase the PROM or do anything else with it, I get a similar error. I tried following instructions posted on this forum, but nothing seems to work.
  2. I'm having a problem with a brand new HS3 that has stop being recognized by impact after few days. When I received it, I used it several times to program my spartan 6 using impact. But suddently for no reason, without even having touch the board or the HS3, it stoped being recognized. So I tried the HS3 from a friend and his one is working in the same condition. For helping diagnostic, I can say that when I connect the HS3 to windows, it is recognized by the OS. Also, I can use FT_PROG to interact with the FTDI chip, read his programmation. But I can't see the HS3 with impact or even with Adept. I also noticed that the HS3 was getting hot when it was working, but now his temperature stay low. Don't know if it could help. So now I wonder what could be wrong, if someone has already had this problème and what I could do to fix my brand new HS3. Thx for your help

    Impact 13.2

I am running Impact 13.2 (Windows 64-bit). I have installed the Digilent plugins. When I try to initialize the JTAG chain, I get an error saying that the selected cable is being used by another application. There are no other cables attached to the laptop.
  4. Hello. I picked up this Spartan-3AN development board to follow along this good book: "FPGA Prototyping by VHDL Examples", Xilinx Spartan -3 Version, by Phong P. Chu. The book appears to be published by Wiley-Interscience. It's a very good book to learn VHDL with. Dr. Chu recommended using ISE version 8.2 and Modelsim XE III. I tried using the latest ISE version (14.7), but it kept crashing. What I would like to ask is, can you recommend a tool-chain that is still available, and is compatible with the Spartan 3 series boards? I am able to synthesize a project using ISE 8.2, but I can't program it with the IMPACT tool, per the book. The book describes how to perform the programming process using a "boundary scan" via the JTAG interface. I do not have the JTAG dongle, so I'm tyring to use the on-board USB programmer, but I can't find any information on how to use it. I saw one post mentioning a tool called "Adept", so I tried downloading it. It requires a "bash" tool to install it, so I gave on that. I would spend more time on it if I knew what is the correct tool-chain to use, given that this is an old outdated board with little support. Should I try to get the latest version of ISE working, or find the programming software to use that USB programmer? Another approach would be to buy a dongle, but I'm not sure which one to get. My JTAG interface is 2x6 pins. It looks like the same set of pins on each row, so I don't know if 1x6 interface will work. Digilent has 2 USB dongles, one is 14 pins (Jtag 2), and the other is 6 (Jtag 3). Each one is about $60, so I didn't want to just guess by buying that 1x6 (Jtag 3) programming dongle. It seems to me that the Type B USB cable connector was made for programming, but I don't know what software it will work with. The IMPACT tool keeps crashing when I try to communicate with my board. I can do synthesis and generate the bit file, but I can't program it. I also can't run the debugger. Could someone please make a suggestion to help extend the life of these excellent Spartan-3 boards? Thank you, Richard V
  5. I am trying to use the Digilent HS1 JTAG programmer to program a CoolRunner XCR3256 with an existing .JED file without success. Should this be possible? When trying with the Digilent Adept software (Runtime 2.16.1 and App 2.7.1), the software sees the CoolRunner and returns a device number. But I only have Config and Settings tabs. When browsing for my JED file, only SVF files are offered. If I select my JED anyway, the Program button never becomes active. The HS1 manual indicated it should also work with the Xilinx IMPACT programmer. But when trying to use IMPACT version 7.4 with the HS1, it doesn't even recognize the HS1. What versions DO work with the HS1? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, WT
  6. Hi, I have a digilent hs2 programmer. whenever i open impact (ise 14.7) to program the FPGA, the programmer is identified by impact, and i can initialize the chain successfully, but after a while (~1 min) it automatically disconnects and disappears from cable setup menu and also from device manager list. I use windows 8.1 64-bit. Could you help me solve this issue? Thank you in advance.
  7. Hi everybody, I have just bought a Genesys Board (Virtex 5 FPGA) and I want to use the Xilinx iMPACT Tool to program it through the dedicated USB port. Is there any documentation available about step-by-step configuration and programming of the Genesys with the iMPACT Tool, for beginners? Thank you! Holly87
  8. Device: Coolrunner 2 xc9572xl Programmer: HS1 Rev A ISE iMPACT: Version 4.7 OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit SP1. Version 6.1.7601 I am trying to program a coolrunner2 xc9572xl using a HS1 Rev A. I can successfully initialise the boundary scan chain and the device is recognised. I then add the .jed file successfully. However, once this is done no iMPACT processes are shown, i.e. Program, Erase, Device ID etc. The processes window remains blank and if you right click the device and select "Set Programming Properties" this also is blank. See attachment. How do I get it to show? When installing ISE 14.7 by default it had the following drivers C:ProgramData.cse.csent6414.1pluginsDigilentlibCseDigilentlibCseDigilent.dll C:ProgramData.cse.csent6414.1pluginsDigilentlibCseDigilentlibCseDigilent.xml Note it says version 14.1 in the file name and the XML states it is version 2.4.4 I updated this to use the current digilent website files and renamed the folder to 14.7 C:ProgramData.cse.csent6414.7pluginsDigilentlibCseDigilentlibCseDigilent.dll C:ProgramData.cse.csent6414.7pluginsDigilentlibCseDigilentlibCseDigilent.xml The version in the XML states 2.5.2 I know I am successfully changing the files it because if I remove the file and run iMPACT the digilent programmer is not recognised.
