    JTAG-HS1 with breadboardable CoolRunner-II

Hello, I'm planning on buying the product "Cmod C2: Breadboardable CoolRunner-II CPLD Module" to make some prototypes of future designs. I saw that, in order to program its CPLD (XC2C64A), I need to buy a USB to JTAG cable. Is the Diligent's JTAG-HS1 programming cable compatible with that CPLD and board?. I will be using the last version of ISE on Windows 10, will it be a problem?. If it helps answering, this are the links of the Digilent's store of those products: Breadboardable CoolRunner-II: https://store.digilentinc.com/cmod-c2-breadboardable-coolrunner-ii-cpld-module/ JTAG-HS1 programming cable: https://store.digilentinc.com/jtag-hs1-programming-cable-limited-time/

    JTAG SMT2 coolrunner programming

Hi, I am trying to use a JTAG-SMT2 board mounted on a custom PCB and connected to my board with a cable. To do that i use a raspberry controlled remotely (the raspberry is version 3B and the OS is up to date). The programmation work fine with a windows computer and with digilent adept software. The issue is that I get a segmentation fault error when I try tu use this command : "sudo djtgcfg prog -d JtagSmt2 -i 0 -f F102-03.00.jed". Scan chain work. Does anyone had any solution for this problem ? Thanks.

    CPLD Cool Runner II Clock

I am trying to implement a simple JTAG chain in a Cool Runner II development board. I am taking various TDI and TDO signals and routing them in the CPLD depending on what FPGAs are powered on. I see that the CMOD CPLD board provides headers for the clock pins but no actual clock. Can I run a design without a clock if it's just simple switches inside the CPLD to interconnecting TDI and TDO signals?
  6. Hi there, I've just started with CPLD design, using the Digilent Coolrunner II CPLD starter board (Rev. 3.0) and successfully synthesized my code with the Xilinx ISE development software. I would now like to integrate a Cmod breadboardable CPLD module into one of my projects. I don't own a programming cable/adapter, so I was wondering if I could use the Starter Board as a programmer via its JTAG interface. Looking at the schematic, I could not find a way to connect a JTAG daisy chain with another external CPLD, because the JTAG signals are all connected in parallel. Would it be possible to simply not power the CPLD on the Starter Board (detatching JP2) and connect the external CPLD to the JTAG pins? Best regards Stefan
  7. A customer has asked the following question. Can someone help? "I am designing my own boards and I need a programming that I can plug into a header. I am targeting Coolrunner II XC2C64A CPLDS. What cable would you recommend?"

    Questions about CoolRunner II CPLD

Hi everyone, I am new to the Xilinx CPLD XC2C54A, I bought a Cmod: Breadboardable CoolRunner-II CPLD Module recently and try to use the platform do some experiment for our design. However, besides DataSheet and Schematic I didn't see any tutorial or example projects available for this board on digilent's website. If possible, could someone point me to the resource that could help me learn about this Architecture? Any sample code, tutorial I could follow? Thanks ahead.

    Netlist for CoolRunner II

I am using the JTAG Technologies Tools to set up some preliminary proof of concept tests. The target board is the CoolRunner-II Starter Board. The JTAG Technologies tool requires a netlist for the board under test (the starter board) to be able to set up testing. Is it possible to get the netlist for the Starter Board from Digilent? Is there another method of entering the netlist which will meet my needs? thanks Jim

    CPLD Programming Cable Parallel Issues

Hi, I have a CPLD prgramming cable and connecting it to a Xilinix pn XC9572XL-5VQG44C. The issue I'm having is getting it to connect to our parallel ports. We've been troubleshooting this for some time, and haven't been able to get anywhere. From what I can tell, there is nothing wrong with our parallel ports (3 of them are brand new, and 1 of them has been used for a while.). I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a call to make sure we have everything setup properly. You can reach me at 314-300-6147. Thanks!
  13. Hi all, I have a problem with my CoolRunner-II CPLD Starter Kit (Revision 2.0). I know this is an outdated product which is not supported by the latest version of Adept. But I had a look at the schematics of the current revision 3.0 and I noticed that the USB to JTAG controller is the same MCU like the one in revision 2.0. I'd like to know if it would be possible to reprogram the firmware of that controller and get my board to work with the latest Adept version. Or is there another solution to use the board with a Xilinx iMPACT plugin? (I use ISE 14.7 on Windows 7 64 Bit) I already tried to use the latest plugin but I can not connect. As soon as I connect my Nexys 2 Board the plugin works fine. I would be very happy if there was a way to work with my CoolRunner II without having to buy any additional JTAG cable or another Coolrunner-II Starter Kit which is almost the same like the one I already own. Do you have any suggestions for me? Best regards, jago
  14. Device: Coolrunner 2 xc9572xl Programmer: HS1 Rev A ISE iMPACT: Version 4.7 OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit SP1. Version 6.1.7601 I am trying to program a coolrunner2 xc9572xl using a HS1 Rev A. I can successfully initialise the boundary scan chain and the device is recognised. I then add the .jed file successfully. However, once this is done no iMPACT processes are shown, i.e. Program, Erase, Device ID etc. The processes window remains blank and if you right click the device and select "Set Programming Properties" this also is blank. See attachment. How do I get it to show? When installing ISE 14.7 by default it had the following drivers C:ProgramData.cse.csent6414.1pluginsDigilentlibCseDigilentlibCseDigilent.dll C:ProgramData.cse.csent6414.1pluginsDigilentlibCseDigilentlibCseDigilent.xml Note it says version 14.1 in the file name and the XML states it is version 2.4.4 I updated this to use the current digilent website files and renamed the folder to 14.7 C:ProgramData.cse.csent6414.7pluginsDigilentlibCseDigilentlibCseDigilent.dll C:ProgramData.cse.csent6414.7pluginsDigilentlibCseDigilentlibCseDigilent.xml The version in the XML states 2.5.2 I know I am successfully changing the files it because if I remove the file and run iMPACT the digilent programmer is not recognised.

Programming Cplds With Hs1 Or Hs2

I got this question from a customer: I'd really like to buy a compact USB JTAG programming cable for configuring Xilinx XC95xx CPLDs, but I don't know which one. In the docs for the HS3 cable it is explicitely stated that programming XC95 is not possible. For HS1 or HS2 there are no lists of target devices. Can HS1 or HS2 be used to programm XC95xx XPLDs? Can anyone help with this?
