  1. Hi, I want to setup a high-school project for my son, I have no previous experience with FPGAs. A friend recommended coolrunner II starter as a platform. Dev env is not clear to me, Digilent point to Xilinx Webpack, but it seems this one merged in a 6.8GB ISE Design suite package. Questions: 1. Should i use the Xilinx 14.7 ISE as "webpack"? 2. It looks like this ISE is no longer supported, specifically it does not support Windows 10. Any way around that? 3. Does it mean that CoolRunner II is deprecated and I should use other starter kit board? 4. If so, can anyone recommend a starter kit for FPGA that is not deprecated?
  2. Hello, I'm planning on buying the product "Cmod C2: Breadboardable CoolRunner-II CPLD Module" to make some prototypes of future designs. I saw that, in order to program its CPLD (XC2C64A), I need to buy a USB to JTAG cable. Is the Diligent's JTAG-HS1 programming cable compatible with that CPLD and board?. I will be using the last version of ISE on Windows 10, will it be a problem?. If it helps answering, this are the links of the Digilent's store of those products: Breadboardable CoolRunner-II: JTAG-HS1 programming cable:
  3. Hi everyone, I am new to the Xilinx CPLD XC2C54A, I bought a Cmod: Breadboardable CoolRunner-II CPLD Module recently and try to use the platform do some experiment for our design. However, besides DataSheet and Schematic I didn't see any tutorial or example projects available for this board on digilent's website. If possible, could someone point me to the resource that could help me learn about this Architecture? Any sample code, tutorial I could follow? Thanks ahead.
  4. I am using the JTAG Technologies Tools to set up some preliminary proof of concept tests. The target board is the CoolRunner-II Starter Board. The JTAG Technologies tool requires a netlist for the board under test (the starter board) to be able to set up testing. Is it possible to get the netlist for the Starter Board from Digilent? Is there another method of entering the netlist which will meet my needs? thanks Jim
  5. I am trying to use the Digilent HS1 JTAG programmer to program a CoolRunner XCR3256 with an existing .JED file without success. Should this be possible? When trying with the Digilent Adept software (Runtime 2.16.1 and App 2.7.1), the software sees the CoolRunner and returns a device number. But I only have Config and Settings tabs. When browsing for my JED file, only SVF files are offered. If I select my JED anyway, the Program button never becomes active. The HS1 manual indicated it should also work with the Xilinx IMPACT programmer. But when trying to use IMPACT version 7.4 with the HS1, it doesn't even recognize the HS1. What versions DO work with the HS1? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, WT
  6. I am interested in converting one of my designs, developed in random logic, into a CPLD. I have never used a CPLD before and decided to learn on the Digilent CoolRunner-II. I have the board (PB200-146 Rev. F) and the proper USB cable. I have downloaded and installed the Xilinx ISE WebPACK in design Suite 14.7 and obtained the necessary licenses. I have also downloaded the contents of the CD provided by Xilinx and installed the "Coolrunner-II Utility Window" software. Upon connecting the board to the computer, running Win XP, the system found all the drivers for it and installed them without any errors. The board is identified as a "Digilent USB Device" by the Device Manager. The board powers up just fine and runs the pre-programed timer demo. The two red LEDs labeled USB 3V3 and 3V3 and the yellow LED labeled LINK are all on. However I am unable to get any response from the Coolrunner-II Utility Window software. It indicates that it is unable to connect to the device when I try to start the temperature and voltage logging or try to program the .jed demonstration file provided. I have also tried to connect to the board from the IMPACT software, selecting each of the two Digilent USB options but have failed to establish a connection. I have looked at the Reference Manual on the website but it does not cover this level of detail. I would appreciate any help or pointers anyone can offer. Is there a clear instruction sheet on how to use this board with the software? Should I be using ADEPT-2 software to program this board??? Regards, - G. Singh
