    Adept SDK C# Library

This is a little DLL I wrote using C++ Interop in Visual Studio to pull some of the functions from the Adept SDK into C#. I'm posting it here in the hopes this is useful to someone else. It's pretty rough as I am absolutely not a Windows developer and I make no guarantees as to how well it is written and/or works (it does do what I need it to do ). Only supports basic DEPP functions as that's all I needed, other functions shouldn't be too hard to add at this point. Released under the BSD license. https://bitbucket.org/orslmontana/digilent-adept-clr-dll/
  2. I am currently trying to implement the related Android Application on the basis of Android phone and Digilent Nexys2 communication. And I know that Digilent Adept is a unique and powerful solution which allows you to communicate with Digilent system boards and a wide assortment of logic devices. However, I learned about that the official website only provides the shared libraries (.so) that support armhf, i686 and x86-64 at present.(https://reference.digilentinc.com/reference/software/adept/start?redirect=1#software_downloads) Now I need to compile and generate the shared libraries (.so) that support armeabi or armeabi-v7a (CPU architecture supported by Android) by myself. Do you know where can I find the source code for the shared libraries (.so) (C or C++ code)? I urgently need this source code!!! Can you help me?

  4. Hello, I want to download Xilinx bit file from Raspberry Pi to Arty S7, and adept utility for ARM seems to be the solution for it. So, I tried the following steps and it almost seems to work except the last step. I used the same bit file with Adept System on Windows, so bit file seems to be fine, and I'm suspecting if the adept utility needs some kind of update for the database. I'm currently using digilent.adept.runtime_2.16.6-armhf.deb and digilent.adept.utilities_2.2.1-armhf.deb. Any advice will be appreciated. 5. I finally got a moment to try out my new Openscope MZ. Upon using the digilent.waveforms_3.6.8_amd64.deb package for, the install failed so I backed up a bit and attempted to install the adept.runtime also from digilent.adept.runtime_2.16.6-amd64.deb. This appeared to install, at least the installer reported it installed but upon perusing the system.log I found the following: Dec 21 21:23:52 Thinker gnome-system-lo[24504]: Allocating size to GtkScrolledWindow 0x55b6114b6520 without calling gtk_widget_get_preferred_width/height(). Legacy Support for Spartan-3 Series Boards

Hello. I picked up this Spartan-3AN development board to follow along this good book: "FPGA Prototyping by VHDL Examples", Xilinx Spartan -3 Version, by Phong P. Chu. The book appears to be published by Wiley-Interscience. It's a very good book to learn VHDL with. Dr. Chu recommended using ISE version 8.2 and Modelsim XE III. I tried using the latest ISE version (14.7), but it kept crashing. What I would like to ask is, can you recommend a tool-chain that is still available, and is compatible with the Spartan 3 series boards? I am able to synthesize a project using ISE 8.2, but I can't program it with the IMPACT tool, per the book. The book describes how to perform the programming process using a "boundary scan" via the JTAG interface. I do not have the JTAG dongle, so I'm tyring to use the on-board USB programmer, but I can't find any information on how to use it. I saw one post mentioning a tool called "Adept", so I tried downloading it. It requires a "bash" tool to install it, so I gave on that. I would spend more time on it if I knew what is the correct tool-chain to use, given that this is an old outdated board with little support. Should I try to get the latest version of ISE working, or find the programming software to use that USB programmer? Another approach would be to buy a dongle, but I'm not sure which one to get. My JTAG interface is 2x6 pins. It looks like the same set of pins on each row, so I don't know if 1x6 interface will work. Digilent has 2 USB dongles, one is 14 pins (Jtag 2), and the other is 6 (Jtag 3). Each one is about $60, so I didn't want to just guess by buying that 1x6 (Jtag 3) programming dongle. It seems to me that the Type B USB cable connector was made for programming, but I don't know what software it will work with. The IMPACT tool keeps crashing when I try to communicate with my board. I can do synthesis and generate the bit file, but I can't program it. I also can't run the debugger. Could someone please make a suggestion to help extend the life of these excellent Spartan-3 boards? Thank you, Richard V
  7. I'm writing a USB to JTAG programmer using Adept SDK APIs. Does anyone know if there is a way to set the FT232H chip IO drive strength which appears to have (4ma, 8ma, 12ma, or 16ma) options available?
  8. Hi I am trying to install waveforms to use the analog discovery box. I am in Linux using Ubuntu and I have downloaded both adept and Waveforms and tried installing both using the terminal and everything seems like it installed but when I search to open Waveforms I can't find it. I'm not sure what is wrong or why they are not installing properly. I'm using the 64 bit for both. Please Help Thanks

Genesys 2 provides an on board undocumented FT2232 USB2 SW interface. This device should be addressed using Adept 2. My question is if adept can be avoided using standard drivers and libraries provided by the FTDI manufacturer. Luigi
  11. Hello, I'm a baby engineer. I want to write a binary user data file as well as a fpga configuration file in flash memory, Genesys2. I did it to Atlys board using a Adept software (you know It included the flash writing function!) in very easy way. But Genesys2, doesn't work. What can I do in order to write the user data to a desired start address like 0xA0000. in Vivado. or I just wait to the update Adept..?

    Nexysvideo and Adept

Hi I wanted to program my Nexys Video using Adept 2 Software (version 2.16.4) . However, the program could not find any specific board information, so it ends up with loading default information which only presents me the config and settings tab. The config tab tells me that adept recognizes the connected board correctly as Nexysvideo. What is going wrong here? Thanks, R.G.
  13. I want to build the DaciDemo project in Visual Studio 2010. Following the recipes given in "Building and Adept SDK Project in Visual Studio.pdf" one has to add all required paths and the additional dependencies (of course at different locations due to the fact that I am using 2010 and the reference doc is 2008), all libraries and other files get nicely attached. Nevertheless, the project won't build. There are 10 Error messages , all of the type: Error 1 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__## referenced in function _main c:\....\visual studio 2010\Projects\dacidemo\dacidemo\DaciDemo.obj dacidemo where ## stands for {DmgrClose, DaciDisable, DaciGetBuf, DaciPutBuf, ...} - shortly said: all references to the attached libararies occuring in the project. In the meantime I found out that changing the library path (in Project Property sheet | Linker | C++Directories|) from "lib64 " to "lib" will eliminate 8 of the above 10 errors (even though my platform is Win64 :-) ). Now all external names from "Daci" are resolved but the "Dmgr" references are still left: {DmgrClose,DmgrOpen} The problem is solved: There is an error in the documentation file that comes with the SDK! It is NOT enough to include only depp.h and daci.h in the "additional dependencies" as stated in the documentation but one has to include dmgr.h as well. Obviously, depp.h and daci.h do not include any external symbol to open and close depp resources.
  14. Hello Digilent! I am currently trying to build FPGA logic to match the DEPP standard. However, when looking through the Adept SDK documentation, and in particular the "Digilent Asynchronous Parallel Interface (DEPP)" standard, I noticed that the timing diagrams on pages 3 and 4 for both data and address transactions depended on the address strobe line. Is this a typo? Shouldn't the data write and data read transactions be dependent upon the DSTB or data strobe line? Thanks! Dan

    Analog Discovery on Linux

I have an Analog Discovery 1. I have been using it successfully under Windows for some time. I would now like to use it under Linux - Ubuntu 14.04 LTs (64-bit) . I have installed digilent.waveforms_3.2.6_amd64.deb When I start the program I get three error messages 1) WaveForms > dlopen libmgr.so Reinstall Digilent Adept Runtime 2) WaveForms > No device detected 3) Device Manager > Adept NOK No device appears in the list of available devices in the Device Manager. Running dmesg I can see that the device is recognized by the operating system. When connecting I get - "FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0" When disconnecting I get - "FTDI USB Serial Device converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0" Does anybody know how to solve this issue? Regards, Ben

    BASYS2 - Adept testing

I recently got my BASYS2 board. I installed the ISE Design Suite and Adept. I appear to have problems with the LEDs and the 4 buttons on the board. In Adept, when I run the test, I get the following issues. When I flip any of the last 4 switches (SW4 - SW7) on the board, on the screen the switch is shown correctly but the button below the flipped switch also darkens. Pressing any of the four buttons on the board has no effect on the screen buttons display. Is there something wrong with my board or is there something I need to do to fix this?
  17. I am trying to use the Digilent HS1 JTAG programmer to program a CoolRunner XCR3256 with an existing .JED file without success. Should this be possible? When trying with the Digilent Adept software (Runtime 2.16.1 and App 2.7.1), the software sees the CoolRunner and returns a device number. But I only have Config and Settings tabs. When browsing for my JED file, only SVF files are offered. If I select my JED anyway, the Program button never becomes active. The HS1 manual indicated it should also work with the Xilinx IMPACT programmer. But when trying to use IMPACT version 7.4 with the HS1, it doesn't even recognize the HS1. What versions DO work with the HS1? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, WT

    Moving to Linux

Hi all, i'm moving my development environment to Ubuntu. Last things I'm struggling with are Xilinx WebISE and the JTAG-HS3 programmer. All worked fine under W7pro. But WebISE performs traumatically on Ubuntu. WebISE was designed to run on RedHat and SUSE but it runs there far from flawless. So I put up a W7 in VirtualBox on Ubuntu and got WebISE running fine again. But when forwarding the JTAG-HS3 to the VM, the VM got killed immediately. I can live with this situation if I knew how to operate JTAG-HS3 on Linux, to upload a bitstream to my FPGA. So my questions boil down to: Where can I find a user manual about how to use the Adept software for Linux. I haven't found it on the Digilent website?Does anyone know how to stop VirtualBox VM's crashing when connected to a JTAG-HS3 programmer? Thanks in advance

    IO Expansion in Nexys3 board

Hello sir, I am using Nexys3 board along with digilent adept for bit file download. But in this board there are only 8 switches. I have seen there is possibility to extend I/O ports virtually with the help of digilent adept but how to use this feature. What is the procedure for this? If suppose i want to implement 8 bit adders i need (8+8) 16 input ports. How to achieve this with nexys3 board?

    Using Adept with the Spartan-3E

I am trying to get started learning about the Spartan-3E board. I'm using the Xilinx 13.4 software to produce the file for download. I've also installed Adept 2 on the same PC running Windows 7. The connection between board and computer is just the USB-A to USB-B cable which came with the kit. Adept doesn't see the board, so I can't even get started. The manual (like most manuals) only describes what to do when everything works as it should. What are the first steps to debugging this process? I have two boards and neither responds. I also tried another cable. I just want to get started. Thanks.
  21. Hello!I am an electrical engineering student and I use a Digilent AC701 board, for my projects. I have similar problem as cclaunch had(topic:Fmc Carrier S6 Loading Config File To Flash ). I want to use a free and easy solution to burn my config program to the SPI Flash but I can't do it with the Adept. I want to do automatic boot from the flash anyhow. Is there any new solution for this problem(a don't want to use impact)? Is it possible that the Adept will support the SPI Flash programming?I thank you in advence for your reply.

    Nexys 4 DDR and Adept

I have a question about how to program the nexys 4 ddr ( .bit ) if the page said The Nexys 4 DDR is not supported by the Digilent Adept Utility then as program the .bit, I use the ISE 14.7 and adept to all projects
  23. Hello, I am new to FPGA programming so I am trying to do the Basys 3 Getting Started tutorial from the wiki. However, when I try to open a hardware target in Vivado, I get the error: [Labtoolstcl 44-26] No hardware targets exist on the server [TCP:localhost:3121] Check to make sure the cable targets connected to this machine are properly connected and powered up, then use the disconnect_hw_server and connect_hw_server commands to re-register the hardware targets. The cables seem to be properly connected and the board is on. I followed the commands above and get the same error. I uninstalled and installed the digilent drivers several times but I still get the error. I downloaded Adept and the Basys 3 also doesn't show up under the device manager. My computer must not be detecting it but I'm not sure why. Thanks.

    Digilent Adept for OS X?

Hello. Are there any plans for OS X version of Digilent Adept? When I'm at home I use Linux workstation, and I'm perfectly happy with the Linux version of Adept. But recently I was travelling at lot, while on the road I use OS X. It would be much easier for me (and probably all other people using OS X), if Digilent released OS X version of Adept. Of course I know there's no OS X version of Xilinx ISE or Vivado, but that can be run easily in a virtual machine. However, setting up USB passthrough in VirtualBox is always problematic, and even if it works, it never works reliably for me. Having a native OS X tool to program Digilent boards would solve this problem. Best regards, Radosław
  25. Hi all, I have a problem with my CoolRunner-II CPLD Starter Kit (Revision 2.0). I know this is an outdated product which is not supported by the latest version of Adept. But I had a look at the schematics of the current revision 3.0 and I noticed that the USB to JTAG controller is the same MCU like the one in revision 2.0. I'd like to know if it would be possible to reprogram the firmware of that controller and get my board to work with the latest Adept version. Or is there another solution to use the board with a Xilinx iMPACT plugin? (I use ISE 14.7 on Windows 7 64 Bit) I already tried to use the latest plugin but I can not connect. As soon as I connect my Nexys 2 Board the plugin works fine. I would be very happy if there was a way to work with my CoolRunner II without having to buy any additional JTAG cable or another Coolrunner-II Starter Kit which is almost the same like the one I already own. Do you have any suggestions for me? Best regards, jago
