Hi, When I move the jumper to 5V on JP1-3.3V/5.0V Shield Voltage Select J1-Shield Power Connector goes from 3.24V -> 0V "The 5 V regulator can be completely disabled if it is not needed for a given application." Is that done with J15(rev.D)/J16(rev.C)- 5.0V Regulator Configuration. By moving both jumpers to the right? Thats how I am getting 0V on the shield power pin. If I move both jumpers to the left, I get 3.85Volt on the shield power pin, but that is still far from 5.0Volt! I can't "easily" find a description of how the many jumpers work on the Wi-Fire. Is it a Regulator Configuration issue that gives me 3.85V instead of 5V? Thanks, Appreciate your help! Olaf is for Wi-FIRE rev.D, if possible where can I get one for rev.C?
  2. Hi, I have a few questions in this task. 1. What is the best Arduino board package to use for the Wi-FIRE board? a. b. Both seem to run the basic blink sketch. I lean toward b. since I can specifically select "Wi-FIRE (rev.C)" Just wonder if Digilent is fully up-to-date with Wi-FIRE since they still are teaching how to use MPIDE, and states "Note that the chipKIT core replaced the need for MPIDE" 2. I am replacing #include <ESP8266WiFi.h> with #include <MRF24G.h> , #include <DEIPcK.h> and #include <DEWFcK.h>. Are there any documentation that fully describe the API for these MRF24WG0MA libraries, beside the source code and some example programs? Thanks Olaf
  3. I'm working with the chipKIT Wi-FIRE board (Rev C) along with the newest version of the arduino IDE and the Digilent Core. I was wondering if it was possible to set up an ad hoc network hosted on the Wi-FIRE board that can be connected to from other devices, I've looked through various parts of the different WiFi related libraries in the core and have found several references to ad hoc but nothing about how I might set it up or what needs to happen to broadcast an SSID for other devices to see. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to come up to speed on the Wi-FIRE board and noticed that there is are two examples under the DSPI library that is included as part of the ChipKIT core hosted on the github site compared to the Digilent Core that is referenced on this page: Is there a particular reason why the DSPI_Demo sketch was not included in the Digilent core, but is part of the ChipKIT core. (Also makes me wonder what other differences may be lurking, left to be discovered.) It would appear that the two cores have not been kept "in sync". To make things even more confusing, there is also a Digilent core on GitHub!

I've been looking over the SD library that was installed as part of the chipKIT boards (ver 1.4.1) and I get the distinct impression that it implements the SPI protocol to the SD card using bit-banging, rather than a PIC32 SPI peripheral. Is this correct? Assuming so, are there any Arduino-compatible libraries for the Wi-FIRE that utilized the SPI peripherals? Assuming not, is my best be to go with MPLAB Harmony? (I'm an old MPLAB-X guy using version 2.10 and an old peripheral library)
  6. I have a Wi-FIRE rev C board that I would like to program from the Arduino IDE. According to the ChipKIT wiki, the ChipKIT core has replaced the need for MPIDE. I hooked up the Wi-FIRE to the UART mini-USB on the top of the board (Call out 26 in the ref manual) and then tried to program from the Arduino IDE by selecting "Sketch > Upload" but I get an the following error Programmer for Microchip PIC32 microcontrollers, Version 2.1.24 No target found. Copyright: (C) 2011-2015 Serge Vakulenko An error occurred while uploading the sketch My guess is that I need to use my chipKIT PGM programmer, but the Wi-FIRE ref manual does not discuss how to connect this. For example, JP3 and JP4 are not mentioned in the manual at all. (They are two, six pin staggered holes, one of which is labeled "JTAG"). It doesn't help that the PGM doesn't have much room to make a connection with all of the other stuff on the top of the board. Am I missing something obvious?   7. I am using a chipKIT Wi-FIRE Rev C board under Arduino 1.8.2 and there are three entries under Tools > Boards. The "Rev A &B, no FPU" is clearly not the correct one, but there is a "chipKIT wifire" and a "chipKIT wifire 80MHz". Since the Rev C board comes with a PIC32 that has a 200 MHz core, I'm guessing the first one is the correct choice, is that correct? Would have made more sense to label the board files by the revision label, rather than clock frequency ...
  8. Hi, Currently I have an issue when I connect the Wi-Fire to wireless network using UDP protocol. It will be helpful if is some information about the fuctions availables on the libraries <DEIPcK.h> and <DEWFcK.h>. On this moment my target is to solve the error received from "IsIPStatusAnError(status)". I'm not sure which configurations are necessary to solve the error, the error is attached . This error comes when the following code trys to work. Could you give me information available to use the UDP protocol used on the sketch named "UDPEchoClient .pde"? As I work with the chipKIT WF32 and the WiFIre, I find that making external connections to these processor boards is not as convenient as they are for the chipKIT Pro MX7 that has Pmod connectors JA through JF. Additionally there are limited pins for taking 3.3V/5V and ground off board. I can only assume that these chipKIT boards were always intended to be used with a shield of some sort. If Digilent makes IO shields specifically for the WF32 and WiFire, please advise. Meanwhile, I find the the Pmod Shield-Uno can be used to provide standard Pmod connections provided a few modifications are made. 1. The bottom side female connectors for JP6-JP8 must be removed because the USB connector J13 on the Wf32 and WiFire are in the way. This is easily done by gently bending the female connectors on the bottom of the Shield-Uno back and forth until they break off at the surface of the PCB. The schematic diagram for the Pmod-Shield does not show a connection for the center pin of JP6 and JP8. Can I assume that since JP6 and JP8 do not feed through to the WF32 or the WiFire that A04/A18 and A05/A19 are not functional? 2. I observed that pins 1 and 2 of J3 on the WF32 / WiFire have no connection to J5 on the Pmod-SHield. This appears not to be an issue since J3:1 is not connected and J3:2 has jumper to J3:4. 3 J6 of the WF32 / WiFire has no connection to the Pmod-Shield making connections to I2C2 unavailable. I could not find a secondary connection for SCL2 and SDA2. 4. Although the majority of the processor programming is done in the Arduino IDE environment using the serial port, there are times that debugging with the MPLAB X IDE is beneficial. Hence, I permanently soldered a single row right angle 6 pin header in JP2. This allows me to slip on and off a chipKIT programmer without removing the shield. Do you for see any problems such as RFI emissions? 5. Reading through the Pmod Shield-Uno users manual I see that the signal names for JA and JB are the same. The chipKIT pin numbers appear to be correct. Digilent should update the users manual.
  10. Hi, I liked my WF32 so much i bought a uC32 and a Wi-Fire. Had a little issue with the uC32 board but got that resolved in an other post. Now the Wi-Fire will not read the SD Card but the WF32 can. The wi-Fire can connect to the network but cannot display a server page as it fails to initialize or read the SD card. I have been looking all over the forums for info but cannot find any info i understan about the Wi-Fire and SD card. Is there a simple way to test to see if my problem is software or hardware. I was using the deWebIOServer packare I found with an WF32 instructable. This works well with the WF32 and the wifi part works with the Wi-Fire also but not the SD Card part. I went out and purchased mor SD cards. the original was a 'Kinston 32GB micro SD HC I'. the 2 new ones are 'Kinston 16 GB misro SD HC I'. they all work with the WF32 but non work with the WI-Fire. I used the SD example from the SD library and changed the SS from 4 to 52 and can read all the SD Cards with the Wi-Fire. Now does any body know why it does not work in the deWebIOServer server example? It also uses the SD library and SS is set to 52 by default. Luc
  11. Does anyone know if AnalogShield will work on the new ChipKit Wi-FIRE (with few modifications) ? I look inside the library and I saw several " #ifdef __PIC32MX__ " However the new ChipKit WI-FIRE is " PIC32MZ ", MZ not MX. In other words, without any modification it will not work. However, if the chip is similar, as described in this forum, should be easy. Thanks
