Hello: I have some question about PC – FPGA Data Transfer,I want to use synchronous FIFO mode to achieve pc to FPGA data transfer: 1:I did not burn the hardware program into the FPGA board, only the upper-computer software to read the data into the chip FIFO, and then use the upper-computer software to read the data from the FIFO.Is this okay?as shown in the Fig 1. 2:Do you have the upper-computer software to achieve pc to FPGA data transfer by synchronous FIFO Fig 2.   2. Hello I just received my Zybo Z7-10 board a few days ago, and have been working on it. I think the USB type A (the USB OTG) is not working. Because I have plugged a simple flash memory with a LED on its back and when I plug it, its LED doesn't turn on. I have another FPGA board "Basys3", and if I plug my flash memory, the back LED on flash memory turns on. I have implemented a Petalinux on the board and it cannot also recognize that USB when I plug it. I have also tested the USB A voltage pins,the voltage between the far right and left pins, and the voltage difference is zero which has to be around 5 volt. Since the warranty time is 30 days, I was wondering if one of the technicians could help me whats going on and if the board is defective. Thank you
  3. My Analog Discovery 2 was very sensitive to movement, with Waveforms reporting the connection lost at the slightest bump. Merely manipulating the flywire leads was enough to cause a disconnect. I determined that the plug on the USB cable that came with the AD2 was not able to seat completely into the AD2's USB jack. While looking through the top of the AD2's enclosure at the USB jack, I observed that the two metal "spring fingers" atop the USB plug were not inserting deeply enough into the jack to permit them to raise and latch into their corresponding holes in the top of the jack. After disassembling the AD2's enclosure, I used some (mechanical) files and an X-Acto knife to enlarge the enclosure's USB port hole so the entire USB plug can pass through (photo attached). With the enclosure assembled, the USB plug now seats completely into the AD2's USB jack. I can see that the two metal "spring fingers" advance into their intended positions and raise up into the jack's holes. Waveforms has yet to report a disconnect during my experiments with wiggling the USB cable.

  6. hello, The following is my description of the problem: I use the FPGA board is nexy Nexys Video A7 board, want to achieve usb and PC information transmission, want to use the synchronization fifo mode,I used FTDI software (FT_Prog.exe) to eeprom into 245fifo mode, but vivado since then show the link is not the device, bit file can not be written. I have two the same board, another board did not eeprom configuration before, vivado can link to the equipment, but after the configuration also appeared in this issue, is not my configuration eeprom there is a problem?Here's my screenshot of the problem。 I hope you will solve this problem for me。 wang

    Impact 13.2

    I am running Impact 13.2 (Windows 64-bit). I have installed the Digilent plugins. When I try to initialize the JTAG chain, I get an error saying that the selected cable is being used by another application. There are no other cables attached to the laptop.
  8. We use Nexys 4 DDR boards for testing our platform. While with most of the Windows host PCs there are no issues, with one of our clients' when the board is plugged in (using the supplied micro USB cable) it shows up as two COM ports under Windows's Device Manager. We suspect this is behind that we can't properly run Xilinx SDK programs on the board, the debugger looses the connection. Is it normal that the board shows up as two COM ports? (When the board is de-attached the ports disappear, so both are surely the single board.) If yes, can this cause issues? If now, how can we begin to troubleshoot the problem, what can possible be behind it? Thank you in advance!
  9. I working with a new Analog Discovery 2 and finding it very useful, but when it's connected to the PC I'm working on, my Xilinx Platform II USB cable no longer works. Xilinx Vivado HW Manager sees the the Analog Discovery 2 instead of the Xilinx cable and Xilink SDK just reports that it can't see the Xilinx USB cable. Environment is as follows: Windows 7 Waveforms 2015 (3.5.4) Vivado 2015.3
  10. Hi Digilent Users, In 2006, I bought one of your development PCBs which is marked "Xilinx XC2-XL" and has one XC9572XLVQ44C, one XC2C256TQ144C, and a very nice prototyping area. The associated paperwork gives the part number as "DO-CPLD-DK" which matches the Obsolete Digikey P/N 122-1512-ND. The good news - When I powered up the board with two AA batteries, the LEDs responded to the pushbutton. The bad news - The kit that I have has a Parallel Port - JTAG cable. The question - Can I use JTAG-USB PROGRAMMING CABLE, Digikey P/N 1286-1052-ND, Digilent P/N 250-003 to program my PCB? Thanks, Dave Crafts

    USB keyboard on zybo

    Hi, I am working with a Zybo and I'm trying to develop a game on it. In order to do so I need to connect a USB keyboard to it. Does anyone can suggest to me some tutorials or VHDL code for it?
  13. It appears that the AD2 power supply selection does not automatically switch to external power when plugging it in after it has already been connected via USB. 1. Connect the AD2 via USB cable 2. Start waveforms2015 3. Connect external power supply(5V -3.5A) From time to time a failure appears like DptiIO failed ERC: 0xA. On Linux this issue is made worst by the fact that it appears a lot more often than on Windows even in the middle of operation of the device. This appears even without the external power supply. Something similar appears on Linux saying that the USB port did not provide sufficient power. Even if the power supply is connected later on, the issue still appears. The only way to solve this is completely disconnect the USB cable, plug in the power supply cable, then plug in the USB cable. The version of Waveforms2015 used is 3.5.4 64bit. On both Windows 7 and Linux the same version is present.(with the latest ADAPT software installed on Linux). The device is put in mode 4 with only Logic and Patterns enabled and memory allocated for them. Is there any way to solve this? Thanks

  15. I'm having trouble with running a USB CDC example (the cdc_com_port_single from MPLAB Harmony) on a WiFire board. I was able to modify the configuration in order to compile the code for the WiFire. The program starts and, apparently, recognizes the connection from my laptop (as reported by the status LEDs), my laptop (a MacBook Pro) recognizes the board as a tty.usbmodem, but no communication occurs thereafter, and the board ends up in APP_STATE_ERROR. Has anyone succeeded running the example on a WiFire? If not, is there another USB CDC sample for the WiFire I can check?

    Zedboart to PC via USB

    I'm working on a project where I need the Zedboard to send data to the computer as well as receive data from the computer through USB 2.0 connection.I found some forum questions online regarding a similar thing but I don't think it's exactly what I want.I saw many solutions online using a peripheral USB controller for FPGAs in general but I assume you don't need any external devices with the zedboard.So for my end goal I should be able to send a number to the PC from the Zedboard and receive a 1 if, for example, the number is bigger than 10 and a 0 if the number is smaller.
  18. Hi, I'm new to this forum so hopefully this has not been asked already. We have a system that contains an embedded Raspberry Pi 2 board and Xilinx FPGAs. We would like to be able to remotely debug FPGA issues. We have been looking into the Xilinx Virtual Cable (XVC) solution. This would allow us to connect Xilinx debugging tools like Chipscope to our FPGAs over an Ethernet connection. I have seen a few implementations where GPIOs from a Raspberry Pi connected to Xilinx FPGA JTAG signals and XVC server code running on the same Raspberry Pi allow for debugging FPGAs remotely. The code I have seen bit bangs the GPIO pins which seems very inefficient. I was wondering if Digilent has a solution where a Digilent USB to JTAG module is used for the Raspberry Pi to JTAG connection instead of GPIO pins to speed things up. If there was such a solution we would ship something like a JTAG-HS2 with all our systems so we could remotely fix problems at customer sites. Does Digilent have such a solution and if not do they supply Raspberry Pi software APIs that would allow customers to develop such a solution? I took a look at the Adept 2 stuff but that looks like it's targeted at configuring FPGAs. I don't think it's for integrating with Xilinx tools. I also looked at the "Digilent Plugin for Xilinx Tools" but I don't think there is a Raspberry Pi version of the plugin and I'm not sure if the plugin will work with XVC. Thanks in advance. RL

I have a Digilent Nexys 4 board with me, and a medical device that provides streaming data via USB slave out, and I understand that my board has a USB HID, but it is connected to a PIC uC which converts it to PS/2 signal for me to use it. I was trying to implement a PS/2 controller to read this but then I came across this post on your forums where a Digilent technician said that video cameras are not supported, only mice and keyboards are. So I'd like to know how to connect a non mouse, non keyboard USB device to my board. This isn't an easy thing to Google so apologies if the answer was in the open. Regards
  20. I've measured the Analog Discovery 2 drawing a current of 510 mA over USB. The USB 2.0 specification [1] dictates that devices shall not draw an absolute maximum current greater than 100 mA before configuration and shall not draw an absolute maximum current greater than 500 mA once configured. It appears to me that the AD2 is not compliant with the USB 2.0 specification. This could explain the Waveforms 2015 errors messages that I reported in another thread on this forum [2]. Measurements were taken on a "warm" AD2 that had already been operating; I anticipate peak current on an AD2 that has been disconnected for some period will be higher (capacitances discharged). Measurements were performed with the AD2 running solely from USB power. Measurements were taken while connecting the AD2 to a PC on which the Waveforms 2015 software was already running. Measurements were not taking during AD2 acquisition or waveform generation operations. Didn't get a photo of the 510.1 mA measurement, but a photo of a 507.7 mA measurement is attached. The measurements were made with a Fluke 87V in mA DC mode with the range manually fixed to "600". The large currents were detected using peak-min-max mode (250 microsecond response time). The large currents were not detected using regular min-max mode (100 millisecond response time). The USB 2.0 spec makes the peripheral responsible for limiting its in-rush current and implementing soft-start as needed. -- Chris [1] --> usb_20.pdf, sections 7.2.1 and [2]
  21. Hi, I have a recently buyed a Zybo board and wanted to use it with Vivado 15.1 on Windows 10 I installed the cable drivers but the USB cable did not appear in the Windows device manager. Only the Jungo Windriver is there. It seems as would the FTDI chip be invisible for Windows. So, I assumed it is either defect or misconfigured. Therefore I tried to use the FTDI tools like FT_Prog to check the FTDI chip on the USB port. But still no luck. This tool doesn't work. It complains that FTD2XX.dll is missing. This DLL will not be installed by the Xilinix cable driver form Vivado. Therefore I tried to install the drivers form the FTDI site. This worked without errors, but FT_PROG nevertheless complains that FTD2XX.dll is missing. Then I copied the FTD2XX.dll directly to the FT_PROG installation folder. The "FTD2XX.dll is missing" error is gone, but the tool shows me no FTDI device. Any ideas? Rainer

    USB on Zybo

    Good afternoon! I am trying to get USB interfacing to work on the Zybo. Because I eventually want to build my own board, I am familiarizing myself with all parts of a functional toolchain. My toolchain looks like this: Generate hardware platform with Vivado 2016.2, using Digilent HW Platform Guide as a reference. Exporting hardware from Vivado. (Note: Hello World SDK project runs successfully from this HW design). Use Petalinux 2016.2 to create a project, load in files as necessary, and generate boot image, as described in UG1144. (Using hdf and bit generated with Vivado, FSBL and Device Tree unchanged from petalinux defaults) Copy BOOT.BIN and image.ub to SD card Linux boots properly, and I have shell access over UART. However, plugging and unplugging USB devices has no effect. By contrast, the prebuilt image provided in this Petalinux BSP repository based on the Digilent Linux BD can detect and identify USB peripherals. The default device tree and kernel configuration *look* complaint with the Zynq Linux USB Xilinx wiki page, with the exception that the device tree lines are divided between zynq-7000.dtsi and pcw.dtsi, and Generic ULPI Transceiver Driver is not an option when running petalinux-config -c kernel. Also, dmesg yields some information when run on the Zynq: root@julianzybo:~# dmesg | grep -i usb usbcore: registered new interface driver usbfs usbcore: registered new interface driver hub usbcore: registered new device driver usb ehci_hcd: USB 2.0 'Enhanced' Host Controller (EHCI) Driver usbcore: registered new interface driver usb-storage usbcore: registered new interface driver usbhid usbhid: USB HID core driver but lsusb isn't even present: root@julianzybo:~# lsusb -sh: lsusb: not found Has anyone successfully built Linux from a custom hardware platform, and gotten USB to work? EDIT: I have not connected any reset to USB0, but I do see the line usb-reset = <&gpio0 46 0>; in the Petalinux-BSP repository device tree. Perhaps a USB reset is necessary?
