How to use the spreadsheet to perform a series of audio measurement. The sheet is a Libre office document. some inputs will be used for calculation and may be helpful. if you know the rated power into 8 ohm, the spread sheet will calculate the RMS and Peak to Peak voltages for that power level. if you know the gain in db or the input sensitivity, other values can be calculated. For safety reason, I begin with measuring the DC offset. 1) measuring D.C. offset and noise. If the amplifier under test is equiped with a volume control: turn the volume all the way down if not: use a shorting plug on the amplifier aux input. connect the dummy load to the speaker terminals open the switch to disconnect the load resistors( only the sense wires are required). connect the sense wires to a scope channel, red to ch+, black to ch- to provide a ground reference for the analog discovery, connect wavegen to auxiliary input or connect a ground wire from analog discovery to amplifier chassis. power the amplifier and let it warm for 5 to 10 minutes. Using the Scope instrument, add measurements panel, then add defined measurement, Vertical, AC RMS and DC RMS measure de DC offset and noise and record the values in the spreadsheet. expect less than 25 mV for offset and less than 1mV for noise. 2) bandwith and verifying tone controls Using the network analyzer configuration, change the lower and upper frequency limits until you can measure the -3db frequencies While in network analyzer, verify the tone controls for normal operation. 3) measuring THD If you have 2 dummy load, you can measure both channels at once. Using regular or normal configuration, use Scope instrument to monitor the output voltages. adjust wavegen or volume control to obtain the desired output voltage. switch to spectrum analyser and take a measure, the spread sheet contains a unit converter at the right. 4) measuring THD vs Frequency Using regular or normal configuration, use Scope instrument to monitor the output voltages. adjust wavegen or volume control to obtain the desired output voltage. You can load the script, and run it. If the desktop file THDvsFrequency.csv already exist, the values will be appended at the end, otherwise it will be creted. Once the script completes, open the desktop file, select and copy the result. in the measurement spreadsheet, open the THDvsFreq pane, and paste the values. The graph should update. If you language uses comma instead of dot, you will need to select all, then find/replace . for , 5) measuring THD vs Power Similar to above, but you will have to determine the start and stop voltages of the wavegen and modify the script prior to runing. 6) output impedance and damping factor take measurement of the output voltage with and without load resistor, then fill those values in the spreadsheet. output impedance and damping factor will be calculated. 7) Input impedance test(refer to dummy load pdf document page 2) Connect Wgen1 to impedance input Connect scope ch1+ to other impedance input. Connect scope ch2+ to normal input. Connect ch1- and ch2- to Gnd. Connect one ground lead of AD to Gnd bus. Adjust Wgen1 output to 1 volt, and run it. Use the scope instrument to measure Both Scope channel voltages. type the values in the spreadsheet, it will do the math. not done yet 2 tone IMD 3 tone MIM as described by Bob Cordell on his web site.
